For heat-sealing and packaging machinery, outer layers can use MDPE or HDPE to improve stiffness and processing stability, while inner layers use metallocene polyethylene (mPE) for reliable seal strength. Barrier layers use PA or EVOH depending on your shelf-life and product sensitivity targets.

What Is Co-Extrusion Barrier Film?

Multi-layer co-extrusion barrier film is produced by blown-film or cast co-extrusion. Three or more extruders melt functional resins — polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), nylon (PA), ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH), and tie layers — then converge at a multi-layer die. The web is blown or cast, cooled, and wound as roll stock.

Compared with adhesive lamination, co-extrusion forms the structure in one step. That reduces ink, adhesive, and additive residue concerns and can lower total process cost for food packaging programs.
